Mini Thorium Reactors

Clean Sky Technologies brain trust wont be reinventing the wheel on Reactors, they are carefully watching and communicating with the most advanced reactor producing companies in the world, and will incorporate their product into the Nuclear Energy A-Z  project currently being developed to include the entire process from mining to nuclear waste.

In case you want to know the basics on mini thorium reactors.....they are designed as small modular molten salt reactors (MSRs) they use liquid fuel salts containing thorium to generate clean energy with significantly less long-lived radioactive waste than traditional uranium reactors.

How Mini Thorium Reactors Work

  • Liquid Fuel: Thorium-232 is dissolved with carrier salts directly into a liquid core, removing the need for solid metal fuel rods. 
  • Breeding Fuel: When thorium absorbs a neutron, it converts through protactinium into fissile uranium-233, which then undergoes fission to create power. 
  • Online Cleanup: Liquid systems allow operators to continuously filter out waste fission products and shift bred uranium-233 back into the core while the reactor keeps running.
  • Atmospheric Pressure: Operating at near-atmospheric pressure eliminates the risk of high-pressure steam or hydrogen explosions.

Key Benefits

  • Abundance: Thorium is roughly three to four times more abundant in the Earth's crust than uranium and requires no complex enrichment.
  • Inherent Safety: If power or active cooling fails, passive drain systems allow the hot liquid salt to safely empty into unpowered underground holding tanks, naturally stopping the reaction.
  • Factory Modular Build:  Companies are designing shipping-container-sized units meant for mass production
